Jessica Patterson has been leading and problem solving since her first day at Nevada State. Determined to become an American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter, she has worked diligently to provide a supportive space to use ASL for new students, led an active Voices Off Hands On (VOHO) club, and has ...volunteered at many deaf events both at school and in the community. 🎉

Jessica leads with confidence and a strong sense of equity and justice, values that will serve her well in her chosen field. She is on track to receive her national certification and use her skills to help others. 💛

Las Vegas native Cindy Rivera holds herself to high expectations. A multicultural first-generation college graduate, she completed undergraduate neuroscience work at Bowdoin College and served as a student researcher in Costa Rica.

Her experiences and dedication have now led her to ...complete a master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology with a 4.0 GPA while holding a job. She hopes to work with people challenged by neurological disorders.

Using his past experiences to positively motivate himself, Marcus Carlisle entered the criminal justice field with a goal of becoming a juvenile probation officer. Knowing he can relate to troubled kids and their parents makes his career choice a slam dunk. 🦂

As Dr. Derric Carter ...shares, “Marcus made class engaging because he was interested in the content...as an instructor, that is half the battle.” He is graduating Cum Laude.
